Biography

Edgar Allan Poe was born on January 19, 1809 in Boston, Massachusetts. He was a short story writer and poet who focused mostly on the genres of mystery and horror. Poe is known to be one of the most creative writers of his generation. Like the majority of his stories, Poe's life was kind of a mystery. He never really knew his parents; his father left him at a young age and his mother died when he was only three. He was adopted by John and Frances Allan and lived with them until he went to the University of Virginia in 1826. By 1830, Poe decided to focus on writing full time. His real breakthrough came in 1845 when he published his poem "The Raven." It is known as one of his best works and a famous American literary work. Poe become depressed after the loss of his wife Virginia Poe in 1847. He later died on October 7, 1849, his last words, "Lord, help my poor soul."
